Paul rebuked the Corinthian church for brethren going to court against one another and that before the unbelievers, admonishing them to set to judge those who are least esteemed in the church (is anyone less esteemed in the church than a lawyer?). I Corinthians 6:1-8. Furthermore, many (Christian and unbeliever alike) are disenchanted with the court system as the means for resolving disputes. For some it is a question of cost, for others it is time and for still others it may be ideological or some other reason. Whatever the reason, the fact of the matter is that alternative dispute resolution has grown dramatically over the past twenty years and there are many different flavors that are available to consumers.
At The Christian Lawyer, we offer arbitration, mediation and early neutral evaluation services to lay people and lawyers alike. At present those services are provided by Christian Minister and Attorney Steven H. Atherton alone through Atherton Law PLC, but over time it is our hope to enlarge our stable of Christian ADR professionals. Our services differ from others primarily for three reasons:

1. Discernment in the Spirit, according to the Word of God.
2. Service, as unto the Lord and without partiality, to those who retain us.
3. Fidelity to the governing law, chosen by those who retain us.

Should you have a dispute that you would like assistance with or need help including an alternative dispute resolution clause in an agreement, write or phone Steven H. Atherton at —
